Plant Spirits

The Plant Spirits

A character lives inside every plant. These are the ones we’ve drawn so far.

New spirit every week

Every plant we write about gets a companion. A spirit drawn from its leaves, its habits, its moods. Each spirit’s post is a real care guide — light, water, substrate, troubleshooting — framed by the character of the plant itself.

Ten plant spirits in this first run. One a week. Then more.

Meet the Spirits

Frydek spirit

Frydek

Alocasia Frydek

The quiet one. Velvet leaves with silver veins. Dramatic about the smallest changes, rewards patience with the most beautiful foliage you’ll grow indoors.

Maculata

Begonia Maculata

The polka-dotted dancer. Angel-wing leaves, silver spots, a flair for the theatrical. Coming next.

Coming next week

Clarinervium

Anthurium Clarinervium

The cartographer. Heart-shaped leaves mapped in white veins. Slow, steady, particular about its substrate.

Coming soon

Kerrii

Hoya Kerrii

The sweetheart. A single thick heart-shaped leaf that could sit on your desk for a decade before deciding to grow.

Coming soon

Thai

Monstera Thai Constellation

The stargazer. Cream-speckled leaves that look like they’ve swallowed a galaxy. Grown in a lab, worshipped in living rooms.

Coming soon

Deliciosa

Monstera Deliciosa

The climber. Split-leaf classic, moss-pole devoted, takes over a corner if you let it. And you should.

Coming soon

Gloriosum

Philodendron Gloriosum

The crawler. Velvety heart-shaped leaves that skim the soil like they’re listening to it. A rhizome that refuses to climb.

Coming soon

McDowell

Philodendron McDowell

The quiet giant. Gloriosum crossed with pastazanum. Enormous velvet hearts on a slow rhizome march.

Coming soon

White Wizard

Philodendron White Wizard

The variegated sage. Pure white sectors on deep green leaves. Mysterious even when stable.

Coming soon

Albo

Syngonium Albo

The shapeshifter. Arrowhead leaves that rearrange themselves as they mature. Half green, half snow.

Closing the first run

Through the Seasons

A second set of spirits runs on the calendar, not the species list. One for each month. A Spring Awakening with pastel wings. A May Bloom in a straw hat. Late summer with wide-brimmed sun. October in leaf-trimmed robes. Coming as seasonal features through the year.

The Plant Zodiac

There’s a plant spirit for each of the twelve signs. Leo radiant as a sunflower mane. Taurus built from sturdy bark. Pisces shaped from soft flowing leaves. A future “which plant are you” will live here — for now, the drawings are waiting.

Don’t miss a spirit.
